February 2017 UNICO Dine Around to be held at Banyan in Delray
UNICO was founded on October 10, 1922 in Waterbury, Connecticut. A group of 15 men, led by Dr. Anthony P. Vastola, came together to create what has become a very special and very proud organization. It was Dr. Vastola's dream to create an Italian American service organization to engage in charitable works, support higher education, and perform patriotic deeds. In World War I, the Italian American community represented only four percent of the entire United States population. Although 12 percent of all Americans casualties during this conflict were ItalianAmerican, the loyalty of Italian Americans was questioned. The Sacco-Venzetti trial was fueled by prevailing sentiment that Italian Americans remained loyal to their former homeland. Our founders wanted to insure that everyone understood that Italian Americans loved their adopted country and held no allegiance to their native land save traditions and culture. The name UNICO was selected as best representing the nature and the character of this fledgling organization. The name is the Italian word for unique, one of a kind. The founders believed that UNICO would be the only one of its kind because it placed service to the community before and above fraternity.
"ITALIAN MASTERS DO IT BETTER" Wynwood Arts District November 29-Dec 4th
We selected ITALIAN MASTERS DO IT BETTER as the title of the exhibition on the great contemporary Italian artists that founded and influenced important internationally celebrated art movements in the 1950's, 60's, 70's, until the year 2000 and onwards, because we wish to point out the excellent unique creativity of these masters, officially introducing their artworks in the United States during this millennium. The American public is familiar to the excellence of Italian creativity in contemporary design, fashion, food, automotive industry, music, literature, as well as in Italian Classic Art masters like Leonardo, Michelangelo or Rafael, but only the in deep contemporary art connoisseurs know that Alberto Biasi was widely celebrated at the Venice Biennial and at New York MoMA around the middle of the last century as one of the founders of the international kinetic movement. Italian Seasoning as a Health Supplement?
When most people think of Italian seasoning they think of a simple blend of six or seven herbs commonly used to put in your gravy and or on macaroni, noodles and to season up certain dishes. What you may never thought of is the fact that these herbs have synergistic health benefits. For example Thyme is beneficial in lowing blood pressure slightly, to help stop coughing, an immunity booster and for mood improvement. Its not only the flavors of the miracle herb that put a smile on your face its the biologically active oils contained within the DNA of the plant itself.

Ci Mancherai!!! Sicilian-American Legendary Judge Antonin Scalia Passes to a Higher Place!
3/2/2016 - Italians worked hard and dug their way out of socialist trenches only to go an and prosper in America. There exists no finer example of such success than Republican Judge Anthony Scalia. Born in New Jersey on March 11th as Antonin Gregory Scalia he was the first Sicilian-American to sit on the bench of the Supreme Court. Scalia was appointed by President Ronald Reagan in 1986 which ironically enough was also when the Acura Legend was launched. Scalia was a "Legend"!!! Scalia graduated from Harvard and spent time teaching in Chicago. Scalia was a true conservative and believed in states-rights! His most controversial move was his push to strike down Roe vs. Wade which was the most fought over supreme court decision of all time. Antonin was a fair player and voted against discrimination. Florida businessman and real-estate mogul touted Judge Scalia as a hero and a judge who did not believe in legislating from the bench!!
